What is Single Session Therapy (SST) and who is it for?

Single-session therapy (SST) is exactly what it sounds like—a one-time session designed to help tackle a specific issue right away. Instead of committing to extended therapy periods, SST provides an opportunity for a focused, solution-driven conversation in just one session. The goal of SST is to gain clarity, strategies, and support without the long-term commitment of more traditional counselling.

At UKCN, we offer Single-session therapy to individuals, couples, or any type of relationship. Therefore, if you are looking for a quick, practical, and solution-focused approach to therapy, SST could be a great fit!

How Does It Work?

Our individual Single-sessions last two hours to provide a suitable time to explore the key issue identified as the focus of the therapy. Because it is straight to the point, you and your therapist can dive into what is bothering you and work on practical solutions.

Our Couples/Relationship single sessions are typically 2 hours long. Again, the invitation is to prepare for the session by considering the specific issues you both have agreed to bring to the meeting with a Couples/Relationship specialist.

Of course, you can return for more single sessions in the future if you wish, or you may decide to opt for one of our other longer-term therapies. There is no pressure to do so-the choice is yours.

At UK Counselling Network, our single-session therapies are available in person for those local to one of our centres, or online, providing added convenience to this approach to therapy. It is effective and super convenient.

  • Need help with a specific issue, like work stress, relationship problems, or a tough decision

  • Want quick strategies to handle anxiety, stress, or life transitions
  • Are unsure about long-term therapy but want to try a session first
