EMDR Trauma Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of psychotherapy developed to help people heal from the emotional distress caused by traumatic experiences. Its most commonly used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but it can also be effective for anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions related to trauma. The fee for these weekly sessions is £75.00
Benefits of EMDR Therapy
The core idea behind EMDR is that trauma can become “stuck” in the brain’s memory processing system, preventing it from being properly integrated or resolved. EMDR helps reprocess these traumatic memories so that they become less emotionally intense and are stored more like ordinary memories.
Who Might Benefit from EMDR?
- People with PTSD
- Survivors of abuse, assault, accidents, or combat
- Individuals with panic attacks, phobias, or complicated grief
- Anyone with trauma-related anxiety or depression
- People suffering from a traumatic loss
The Process of EMDR Therapy
- History and Treatment Planning
Therapist assesses the client’s history and identifies target memories. - Preparation
The client is taught coping skills and what to expect during EMDR. - Assessment
The therapist identifies specific memories, images, negative beliefs, and physical sensations to target. - Desensitization
The client focuses on a traumatic memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (usually eye movements, but sometimes tapping or audio tones). This helps reduce the emotional charge of the memory. - Installation
A positive belief is introduced to replace the negative belief linked to the memory. - Body Scan
The therapist checks for lingering physical tension or emotional reactions, which are processed further if necessary. - Closure
Each session ends in a safe and grounded state. - Re-evaluation
The therapist checks progress and identifies new areas for work.
