Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much do you charge?

Our Affordable Counselling service costs £28 per session. We do not ask for proof of income.

Private Counselling is charged at £60 for individual sessions and £70 for Couples Counselling

  • What is the difference between Affordable Counselling and Private Counselling?

Most of the therapists in our Affordable Counselling service are trainees on clinical placement. They will have already completed a course in counselling skills and, like trainee Teachers or junior Doctors, are gaining the hands-on experience required to gain their qualification. All trainees are supported by a clinical supervisor who take responsibility for the quality of their work. Our Directors, Sally and Nathan, are personally responsible for recruiting the highest quality trainees from around the country.

Our Private Counselling service is staffed by fully qualified Counsellors and Psychotherapists with significant post qualifying experience in a range of mental health presentations.

Users of both services will receive the same level of customer service and quality therapeutic care.

  • What if I don’t like my therapist?

The relationship between client and therapist is hugely important. We endeavour to place you with the best therapist for your clinical needs but if you struggle to relate, please contact us and we will place you with a new therapist

  • Can I choose my own therapist?

Following an assessment with your team, you will be placed with the therapist we feel best fits your needs. If you have specific needs, eg a female therapist please tell us at your assessment.

  • Will I see a counsellor every week at the same time?

Normally yes. If you need to vary times to accommodate work patterns we will endeavour to find a therapist who can do this for you.

  • Can I come in the evening?

Yes – our last in-person appointment is 7 pm. We may be able to be more flexible online.

  • What if I can’t get there one week?

Please let us know in advance. Sessions cancelled at less than 48 hours noticed may be charged for at the standard rate

  • Is it safe around Covid-19 at the moment?

We have taken steps to maintain your safety in our building. If you remain concerned it may be best to work with a therapist online.

  • Is your service confidential?

Yes. However, we may need to break confidentiality if there is a high level of risk to yourself or someone else. This will be explained more fully in your first session.

  • How well qualified is my counsellor?

Most of our counsellors are trainees. Like Teachers and Doctors, a level of training has to take place on the job. All our counsellors are fully supervised and work to the highest standards of therapeutic care

  • I want to work online but I don’t know how to set it up.  Can you help me with this?

Yes, this can be discussed before the first session. You will need a computer or smartphone / tablet, a good broadband connection and a private space to talk.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This will depend entirely on what you want to get from therapy. Most of our clients have between 6-12 sessions but there is no limit on the length of support we offer.

  • Do you offer weekends?

We offer a limited number of face-to-face sessions on a Saturday morning. Online sessions may be more flexible.

  • Do you keep information about me?

We keep as little information as possible – just enough to manage our services with you. These are held securely in accordance with GDPR.

  • I have a question that isn’t here, can I contact you to ask?

Yes, send us a message via the contact form
